About
I am an architectural designer, with three decades of experience, working on office, retail, school and residential projects in London, Berlin, Essex and Sussex. Based in Lewes, I specialise in bespoke residential projects: mainly extensions and alterations to existing houses, designed to meet the requirements of individual clients. The projects encompass a range of architectural styles from old and traditional to modern and contemporary.
I believe in the importance of high-quality design to maximise the spatial potential of properties, add value and enhance our surroundings. I enjoy working collaboratively with a small team of consultants to deliver practical and creative design solutions, at a reasonable cost. I aim to make the building process straightforward: firstly, by gaining Planning and Building Regulations approval, then by the appointment of a reputable contractor.
Following RIBA architectural training at Manchester University and University College London, I developed my interest in sustainability by gaining a postgraduate certificate in Ecological and Sustainable Architecture. This led on to working for a sustainable energy consultancy, giving practical advice to clients on how to improve the energy efficiency of their homes, and qualifying as a Code for Sustainable Homes Assessor.
At this time of high energy costs and the global climate crisis, the construction industry has a major role to play in reducing our carbon emissions. On a domestic level, modest improvements to energy efficiency in the home will save money and help the environment: I can suggest cost-effective retrofit strategies to achieve this, suitable for different types of buildings, or innovative materials and technologies for more ambitious projects.
